Abstract

Craftsmanship and the need for authentic materials emerge as crucial factors that need indus-trial “solutions” in the repositioning of traditional items within modern consumption. Studies frequently look at appropriate modernisation techniques for industrial production and rec-ommend traditional-looking designs. The issue with this is that the priority is on creating a “sustainable version for industry,” which eliminates the function of local crafts in sustainable development with functions like waste reduction, utilizing local resources, boosting local pro-duction, and contributing to a circular economy. By adopting a modern perspective on tradition, craftsmanship is understood as producing economic value on a local level and has a practical component. Studies that take this angle highlight regional, low-impact materials and use waste-reduction strategies offer a role model for sustainable consumption. As a result, the emerging trend for designers is to use sustainable production techniques and materials. Clothing is commonly studied within traditional items because it is a component that represents the regional culture and socio-cultural structure of the time and place in which it was made. Garments and decorative techniques form an area where designers develop traditional techniques to create artistic products. The aim of this study is to present artistic works that incorporate local techniques and authentic materials, while staying true to the distinctive elements of Anatolian women’s headdresses, such as fabric, motifs, and binding, which represent cultural value. Firstly, innovative sustainable studies that utilize craftsmanship as a methodology in design will be examined, and women’s headdresses selected from various regions in the Aegean region will be analyzed in terms of material, tech-nique, and form. Based on the techniques and materials applied to three selected headdresses, artistic drawings will be produced, aiming to present avantgarde designs in line with the essence of craftsmanship.
