What is a Research Topic

Themed, peer-reviewed, openly accessible.

A Research Topic is a curated collection of original articles, reviews, methods papers, and perspectives organised around a shared scientific question. Topics are led by a panel of subject experts and published as one cohesive, indexed volume across YTU's open-access journals.

Each contribution undergoes the same rigorous double-anonymous peer review as a standalone YTU submission. The difference: aligned framing, coordinated timing, and shared visibility — your work reaches the readers who matter most to that conversation.

Who leads a Research Topic

An expert editorial panel.

A Research Topic is led by 2–4 researchers across complementary roles. You can propose your own panel or let our editorial team help you find collaborators.

Topic Editor

Sets the scope, leads the call for papers, and chairs editorial decisions across submitted manuscripts.

Co-Editor

Shares review workload, brings complementary expertise, and helps coordinate cross-disciplinary submissions.

Guest Editor

Invited specialist with deep expertise in a narrow sub-area; reviews specific manuscripts and writes the editorial.
